NWDBA Meeting Nov 14th, 2006
Val gave a talk on Farmer's Markets. Topics covered included
regulations, management (can be run by city, chamber of commerce
or a hired entity), application fees, business license through the
individual city "festival license", etc. The cost of booth fees
(these vary by location) with the goal of bringing in a minimum of
8-10 times the booth fee to be profitable. Also, the importance
of regular client returns and selling techniques were discussed.
Very informative- thanks Val!
Cindy brought in a "show and tell" (and taste) of Organic Kiawe
Honey from Hawaii. An unusual single source honey from a large
grove of Kiawe trees on the lee side of the big island. The honey
has a pearly white creamed appearance with a very light, tropical
flavor. Lovely, unusual and pricey! For those who are curious,
here's the web site for more info.

is also available from Wikipedia.

There is a microwave and stove available to reheat dishes.
Anyone having extra door prizes or inventory items they want to donate, please
bring them that evening.
Bring your festive spirit and jingle jollies and see you all on Tuesday!

December Beekeeping
Keep the entrances free
of dead bees. This is a good time to go to beekeeper meetings and read all the
beekeeping magazines that have been stacking up all year. Repair old equipment,
assemble all the new frames and supers you will need next year. If you need
apiary permits for outyards, apply for them now.
January Beekeeping
Make
or order spare hives and other equipment required for the coming season.
See that hive entrances are kept clear of dead bees. Note the amount of
bee loss in your apiary note book. Order queens and package bees now to
avoid the last minute rush.
