Meeting Agenda
At our July meeting Ron Babcock will give a demonstration on techniques for lighting smokers.  Hopefully this portion of the meeting will be outdoors!  We will also be doing a tracheal mite dissection under a microscope and will be doing a bit of honey sampling.  Please bring any unusual or interesting honey to sample.

 NWDBA PICNIC
The NWDBA Picnic will be held Sunday July 13 at the Flowing Lake County Park at the "Large Shelter" between the parking lot and the lake starting at high noon.  We have the site reserved all afternoon to dusk so bring the kids and sunscreen.  This will be a potluck so pick one of main dish, salad, or desert and extra to share.  The club will provide a variety of soda as well as plates and eating utensils.  For those of you with web access, click here
 to get a map.

From the Machias Road, take Dubuque Road 3 miles east to a 4 way stop.  Turn right on 171st Ave SE and take a left on 48th Street.  The park is at the end of the street.  Parking is to the right and costs $5.

 July Beekeeping
If
brood nest crowding occurs consider adding another brood nest (western).  Only remove combs of honey when they are 2/3 capped (nectar won’t shake from combs).  Early morning or evenings are the best times for removing comb to discourage robbing.

Note:  Do not use brood nest combs in the honey supers to prevent contaminating honey with miticide residues.  Identify brood nest combs and boxes (westerns and deeps) with colored paint so that combs are not interchanged.

AUGUST BEEKEEPING
In mid-August remove and store any surplus honey that is at least two thirds capped over in a warm bee-proof, ant-proof place.  To do so, take off the honey supers early in the morning or in the evening so as to prevent robbing of the hive by other colonies of bees.  Treat all hives for 45 days with Apistan strips and treated with medicated patties and Fumidil-B as needed.

Regional Beekeepers Meeting
The regional beekeepers meeting has been scheduled for October 25th
at the Cottontree Inn/Best Western in Mt Vernon.  A no host bar will be open at 5:30 for the social hour with dinner following at 6:30 or 7:00 PM.  More detailed location instructions will be in a future newsletter.  Reports from last years meeting indicated that everyone involved had a great time.  See you there!
