June Meeting – Mark Adams, Queen Rearing

Join us for a beginner’s buzz session at 6pm, followed by the main meeting at 7pm.

 

Mark Adam is a local queen breeder located in Arlington, Washington. Since 2000, Northwest Queens has been dedicated to developing mite resistant honey bees suited for the Northwest climate. 2017 will be the third year working with the Purdue University team. Dr. Greg Hunt (Entomology dept.) and Krispn Given (Apiculture Specialist). Mark has also been working with Bob Danka of the USDA facility in Baton Rouge, LA which is home of the VSH line. (VSH – Varroa sensitive hygiene – behavioral trait in which bees detect and remove bee pupae that are infested by varroa mites.) Northwest Queens’ goal is to spread mite resistant genetics into the general population from Northwest surviving colonies.
