October 10th Meeting – Erik Newquist, Mead Making
October 10 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
We will have the beginner’s buzz session at 6pm, followed by the main meeting at 7pm.
The Main meeting will be a discussion of mead making by Erik Newquist owner and operator of Aesir Meadery (http://www.aesirmeadery.com) in Everett, WA. Erik has been making mead for many years and has turned it into a full-time business. He is also trained in microbiology and so has a nice science based perspective on how to brew successfully and avoid pitfalls and failed batches. Erik will cover the equipment and process needed to make mead with a focus on small batches (1-5 gallons). We will do a tasting of a couple of different meads from Aesir to see the variety of things one can do, but the main focus will be on what you need to do to successfully make you own batch. Please email Erik at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any specific questions about mead making that you would like him to address during his talk.
Erik also teaches hands on mead making classes at both the Nordic Heritage Museum and at his meadery, and we will hopefully put together a group from the club to do a hands on class this Fall. Erik has also asked that any of our members who sell raw unfiltered honey in bulk provide him with their contact information.
