Some FAQ's...

Why so late?

This course is scheduled closer to when everyone gets their bees in April or May - we've found this helps everyone to be more successful.  Day 1 will cover more focused on equipment, new bees and "Spring" events, and Day 2 will be additional management through the year  and pest practices.

Don't forget to join our beginner hour  at our monthly meetings on the 2nd tuesday of the month to keep you on task throughout the year!

Why two days?

The content is a lot to be covered in one day, by both instructors and students!  We want to also be able to enjoy some saturday time, and have you absorb information. Plus, there's a lot of equipment for our instructors to bring since we can't store it at our host location - gives our instructors time to unpack and pack up with out becoming too long of a day.   Also serves as an opportunity for you to bring in more questions the second day.

Why is this more than some other local classes?

Our instructors are our advanced certified club members, and volunteer their time. This is a fundraising event and helps cover additioinal club activities  including  guest speakers, donation to our host location, and our overhead (website, zoom).

We're in the same house, do we each have to register?

Yes, couples or parent/offspring need to register separately.  Washington State Beekeepers Association (WASBA) is the state level orginzation that helps manage the content and your certifications, this is at the individual level, while managed at the  and our NWDBA club membership is at the local level.

If you are an existing club member, both would register under the member price.

If you are not a club member, one would register as a non member (course fee, + $25 membership), and the other register as a member. This saves a step in filling out a separate member form.

Can I ask questions later?

Absolutely! We plan for this as part of Beginner hour in our monthly meetings. And we will separately offer a Q&A session early May to our class attendees to answer questions that come up once you  experienced your bees!  Feedback from years prior our course attendees have found this very valuable!  We will schedule a zoom session separately in May when people get their bees and have had a couple weeks with them to ask more detailed and specific questions.

Member benefits

As a club member you have access so some of our recorded past speakers, and a forum to engage with other members of NWDBA for questions or even in a buy/sell/trade event.

You'll also receive our monthly newsletter "Beelines" and automatically receive information about the montly meeting on the day of without the RSVP.
